Review highlights

Based on 2,428 reviews

Hokkaido Restaurant Genshiyaki is widely appreciated for its authentic Hokkaido-style Japanese cuisine, featuring fresh, high-quality seafood and carefully crafted seasonal dishes. Guests often highlight the fresh ingredients, particularly in rice bowls and grilled fish options, and the well-presented dishes that bring a genuine taste of Hokkaido to Bangkok. The restaurant’s ambiance is described as pleasant and fitting for a regional Japanese dining experience, complemented by attentive and friendly service. While the location may require some effort to reach, ample parking and its central city setting are consistently noted as conveniences. Pricing is considered slightly higher but generally justified by the quality and authenticity of the food.

Hidden Japanese restaurant gem! We arrived at 11:30 AM and were lucky enough to catch their special promotion—get a rice bowl originally priced at 799 THB for just 399 THB! Super satisfying, and the ingredients were really fresh. The unagi don was on the sweeter side, while the mentaiko and whitebait rice bowl was also delicious. If you’re into beef, there’s a separate special beef bowl you can order too. Definitely worth a visit!

Restaurant might be slightly hard to walk to, but there are ample parking spaces at the area. Ambience is not bad, food is slightly more expensive but worth the price.

Decent Japanese dishes and environment. Fresh raw seafoods with good quality. Some seasonal menu, need to check at the restaurant before. The service is good. Parking available. The resto located at the city spot, easy to find, as well as, go explore around the area.

Impressive! Hokkaido authentic foods. The representation of each dish was amazing. We got the limited beef tower with black truffle over rice. Is is delicious. Grilled seasonal fishs were fresh and yummy. Service was excellent. Definitely will come back.

Pursuing authentic Japanese restaurants in Bangkok, I came across this hidden gem. As soon as I walked in, I was warmly greeted by the staff and guided to a table. I felt as if I had stepped into a countryside restaurant in Japan—simple, humble, and sincere. I ordered the oysters on promotion, the broiled seafood tower, and sweetfish (ayu). The oysters were decent, as I managed my expectations. After a short wait, the seafood tower arrived—along with an apology from the boss for the delay. He personally helped “fire” the tower, which added a theatrical and memorable touch to the experience. What stood out to me most was the atmosphere. The hospitality here reminded me of what I often feel in truly authentic Japanese restaurants. The interior is a bit dated, but in a nostalgic way, paired with traditional Japanese music playing softly in the background. The space is cozy, with strong AC—perfect for Bangkok. The seafood tower was also a promotional item, so I didn’t expect much, but it turned out decent. The sweetfish, however, was the highlight—memorable, satisfying, and beautifully done. The price-performance ratio is strong, especially compared to similar places around town. Overall, it was a satisfying journey. Kudos to the Japanese owner—he reminds me of a conductor leading an orchestra with quiet empathy. Ratings: • Service: A- (attentive, warm, sincere) • Vibe: A (nostalgic, authentic, calm) • Comfort: A- (cozy, well-ventilated, relaxed) • F&B: A- (memorable, balanced, thoughtful) • PP Ratio: A (fair, generous, worthwhile)

Here’s an elevated and enthusiastic version in English: Hidden Izakaya Gem in Sukhumvit Soi 16. Absolutely impressed by every single dish at this cozy little izakaya. The highlight for me was the Kinme Acqua Pazza Kinmedai with white wine. Another must-try is the grilled Shishamo is perfectly and full of flavor. The Karaage with salted sauce. Wow. Juicy, savory, and umami packed unexpectedly addictive.
